These Japanese Umbrellas Will Have You Begging For A Rainy Day

By now, you may have heard of the Seattle-based project Rainworks and their rain-activated designs that they've scattered throughout the city to brighten people's commutes on rainy days.

Well, several Japanese companies have taken that concept and applied it to umbrellas, giving people a different reason to smile during bad weather.

Rain may not be the most enjoyable thing, but having one of these certainly makes it slightly more bearable.

The science behind them is simple. The umbrellas' designs are made by coating their shapes with a water-absorbent substance - allowing them to darken and thus, stand out. The rest of the umbrella's surface is coated with a hydrophobic water-repellant substance, keeping it not only dry, but contrastively lighter.

There are multiple makers pumping out the umbrellas, and they don't just make cute, effeminate ones. They also have designs that appeal to men.
