Winter Is Coming And You'll Need These 14 Tips To Keep Up With Your Running

1. Get a pair of cold-weather running tights.

Under Armour makes great moisture-wicking tights that will also keep you warm while you run.

2. Stay out of large, open areas.

It's really easy for the wind to pick up in large open areas like your neighborhood park, so stay out of those areas when you go for a run.

3. Make sure you shower and hydrate right when you get home.

It can be hard to see how much you've sweat when working out in the winter time, so you should always make sure you rehydrate when you get home.

4. Get hand warmers, if you're still feeling a chill.

They're disposable and really get the job done!

5. Cover your face.

Keep your face warm by wearing a balaclava or another kind of face guard.

6. Moisturize to protect your skin.

Vaseline will help prevent chafing and windburn to sensitive areas.

7. Keep your ears and fingers covered.

You lose a ton of heat through your head and hands, so make sure they're covered by a hat and great pair of gloves. 

8. Choose your route wisely.

Choose roads that you know have been plowed or salted before you head out of a run. Avoid ice at all costs. 

9. Get out of sweaty clothes right when you get home.

Minimize the amount of time you end up spending outdoors by warming up at home first. It will warm your body up before you step out into the cold.

11. If there are icy conditions, stay inside and work out at home.

Wear multiple thin layers of clothes before heading out for a run. Look specifically for sweat wicking fabrics and water and windproof jackets. 

13. Wear wool socks.

They'll keep moisture out and heat in. 

14. Don't push yourself too much.

You're not going to be able to run as fast or as much in the winter versus other seasons, so set realistic expectations before you set out for your run.
