10 Shocking TV Moments That We're Still Recovering From
So much drama, so many tears, and so many laughs. Relive it all here.

1. "Underground" - August's kindness to slaves is phony - he's actually a bounty hunter
One of TV biggest twists happened in John Legend's new slavery drama, "Underground." August Pullman, played by fan-favorite actor Christopher Meloni, first seems like one of the good guys the slaves can count on. When he's asked by slave catchers if he's seen any runaways, a shocking violent side erupts as he stops one of them from checking his wagon by throwing a knife in the guy's hand. That bloody scene tricked most viewers into thinking August is just really out to protect the slaves - but at the end of the pilot, we find out he's actually a slave catcher who lures them in with his kindness and then sells them for profit. *Mic drop* One of the best twists in TV thus far.
2. "Game of Thrones" - Jon Snow's death scene
Jon Snow's death in the season five finale of Game of Thrones sent fans into a frenzy. While he might not really be dead, there's no denying that watching him get betrayed and then stabbed (seemingly to death) by his brothers, the men of the Night's watch, wasn't gruesome and shocking.
3. "How To Get Away With Murder" - Wes shoots Annalise
In the heart-racing mid-season finale of HTGAWM's sophomore season, Annalise finds the only way to protect herself and the Keating 5 is to act like she was shot. She begs and pleads each one of her students to shoot her in a moment of desperation, but they all refuse. At first, Wes refuses too, but then Annalise uses the secret she has been keeping from him so he will shoot her - that Rebecca is dead.
Instead of shooting Annalise in the leg, so as not to kill her, Wes shoots her in the chest. Just as he's about to shoot her again, Annalise mutters something only she knows about him from his childhood. What a cliffhanger.
4. "Grey's Anatomy" - Derek Shepherd's fatal car crash
RIP McDreamy. This was one of the most heartbreaking TV death scenes ever. After saving the lives of four car accident victims, a huge truck plows into Derek's car while he's driving back to Meredith. He was taken to the hospital still breathing, but Meredith is eventually forced to take him off life support. BRB, gonna cry again.
5. "Orange Is The New Black" - Piper cheats on Alex with Stella
Everyone lost their cool after Ruby Rose's Stella Carlin entered the picture at Litchfield. Piper and Alex were finally back together and going strong, but Pipes began growing closer and closer to Stella while building her panty business. So close, that Piper and Stella shared a sensual kiss that sent chills down our spine.
6. "The Walking Dead" - Glenn appears to be eaten alive by zombies
No one was ready to say goodbye to Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead. Thankfully, we didn't have to. But for a good couple weeks, we thought that was it. In the shocking "Thank You" episode, Glenn appeared to fall to a gruesome death only to be ripped apart by walkers. A few episodes later, we found out that another character, Nicholas, had actually fallen on top of him in a suicide attempt and that was the body the zombies were feeding on. Phew.
7. "Empire" - Lucious, not Jamal, is the father of Olivia's daughter
#BabyShocker! Lucious confesses that he is actually the father of Olivia's young daughter as a gun to Cookie's head forces him to admit it. Whoa. It also plays with your emotions because Jamal has just come to terms with being a father, and an adorable one at that, as seen in the scene above.
8. "Mad Men" - Betty Draper finds out she's dying of lung cancer
Oh, Betty. You were a complicated bird. Betty, who was finally starting to build a life for herself by going to school, finds out that she only has a few months to live. Rather than cry or become angry, she continues to chain smoke and spells out a detailed list for Sally on how she wants to be buried - including the lipstick she wants to wear in her grave. Her last phone call to Don is utterly heartbreaking. RIP, Birdie.
9. "The Vampire Diaries" - Goodbye, Elena
Leading lady Nina Dobrev's shocking announcement that she was leaving The Vampire Diaries brought the emotional waterworks from fans. The final scene between Damon and Elena is just too much to handle. That dance. Their final kiss. Goodbye, Delena. You will forever be TV's hottest couple.
10. "Downton Abbey" - Lord Grantham's bloody death scene
Nothing in Downton Abbey history had ever been this graphic or disturbing - we've even been through the First World War for crying out loud. Lord Grantham projectile vomits blood repeatedly at the dinner table, sending everyone into a frenzy. Way to turn a snoozer scene into the most heart-racing Downton Abbey scene ever.
