The “Rise” singer says she feels “sad” for him.

Most of us had a good laugh after Spencer Morrill revealed on MTV’s “Catfish: The TV Show” that he believed he was dating Katy Perry for over six years. He was even getting ready to pop the big question with his grandmother’s emerald! After an outburst of reactions to the episode, Spencer did, however, manage to get the pop star’s attention—but let’s just say she is not laughing.

The 31-year-old singer appeared on Sirius XM’s “Morning Mashup” and said she thinks Spencer being in love with her is “really unfortunate and very sad,” according to Entertainment Tonight.

“My heart goes out to him, actually,” Katy said. “Because anybody that’s been fooled like that or just you know… People have dreams, and people live in different parts of the world where not everything is as accessible,” she continued. “Like, we live on the coast, and you know, we get stuff in a way that some other people don’t get, and so I feel bad for him. And so I didn’t really like to indulge in that, because my heart would die.”

Spencer believed that he and Katy had been communicating through text and email, saying that he shared private information only she could know. Unfortunately for Spencer, the timeline of their “romance” wouldn’t have been exactly possible. Over the last six years, Katy was married to Russell Brand, dated John Mayer and is now currently hooking up with Orlando Bloom. If it’s any consolation for Spencer though (not that he should get his hopes up), at least Katy knows who he is.
