Disney Just Announced 9 New Live Action Movies With Star-Studded Casts
From "Maleficent 2" to "Tinkerbell," we're pretty stoked about Disney's new projects.
Walt Disney Studios confirmed on April 25 that they are developing nine live-action movies. Yes, nine.
Disney live-action movies have been all the rage lately—with the success of "Maleficent" and most recently, "The Jungle Book," Disney is looking to do what it does best: capitalize on its success... which means more live-action fairy tales for us!
We already have a full calendar's worth of our favorite childhood classics hitting screens as remakes, including "Alice Through the Looking Glass" (May 27), "Pete's Dragon" (Aug. 12) and "Beauty and the Beast" (March 17, 2017). With this, comes the addition of nine live-action movies, so get ready for even more Disney in your life.
Here's everything you need to know about these new movies.
1. Emma Stone will play Cruella De Vil in "Cruella"
Emma will play the title role in this "101 Dalmatians" spin-off, and we're already picturing her in that fur coat.
2. "The Jungle Book 2" is in the works
Following "The Jungle Book's" recent praise, director Jon Favreau and writer Justin Marks will return for the sequel.
3. Angelina Jolie will return for "Maleficent 2"
Angelina Jolie slayed her role as the complicated Maleficent in 2014, so we're p. pumped to see her back for round 2.
4. Reese Witherspoon will star in a "Tinkerbell" movie
Everything about Reese Witherspoon playing the jealous, attention-hogging fairy is exciting. Is there anyone more perfect for this role?
5. Emily Blunt will be the new "Mary Poppins"
Because she's basically magic, anyway. Any hope John Krasinski will make an appearance, too? A girl can dream.
6. Tim Burton will direct "Dumbo"
Um, amazing. Very curious about his take on flying circus elephants...
7. Golden Globe-nominated director Ava DuVernay will direct "A Wrinkle in Time"
DuVernay was the first woman to be nominated for a Best Director Golden Globe Award, for "Selma."
8. Dwayne Johnson will star in "Jungle Cruise"
9. "The Nutcracker and the Four Realms" will be directed by Lasse Hallström
Disney has also updated their release schedule to keep us in ever-more eager anticipation.
